In the Lobby of the Hotel del Mayo

The girl in the lobby (read) a leather-bound book.
The man in the lobby (use) a broom.
The boy in the lobby (water) plants.
The desk clerk (look) at his nails.
The woman in the lobby (write) a letter.
The old man in the lobby (sleep) in his chair.
The fan in the lobby (revolve) slowly overhead.
Another hot Sunday afternoon.
Suddenly, the girl (lay) her finger between the pages of her
book.
The man (lean) on his broom and looks.
The boy (stop) in his tracks.
The desk clerk (raise) his eyes and stares.
The woman (quit) writing.
The old man (stir) and (wake up).
What (be) it?
Someone (run) up from the harbor.
Someone who (have) the sun behind him.
Someone who (be) bare-chested.
(Wave) his arms.
It (be) clear something terrible (happen).
The man (run) straight for the hotel.
His lips (work) themselves into a scream.
Everyone in the lobby (recall) their terror.
Everyone (remember) this moment for the rest of their
lives.
