09/01/2004 Entry: "Hellen K"

On this day in 1904 Hellen Keller graduated with honors from Radcliffe University, the first blind and deaf woman to ever graduate from college. A very remarkable gal.

She learned to comunicate by touch, and then later to actually speak (video).

My own personal victory today is that I learned that the S-Bahn tickets are also good for the buses.

I wasn't sure, and I was too embarassed to ask. So I asked my friends last week and they all looked at me like I had just asked them "what's this 'toilet paper' I've been hearing so much about lately used for?" But I summoned up my courage and vowed to ask the bus driver infront of all of those passengers (actually, two little kids and a kindly looking old lady). The bus driver lady seemed in high spirits when she pulled up to the stop. She played this little game with me where the bus slows down to stop and right before I get to the door the bus lurches forward two more meters. Very funny. Then the door hit me in the face. So, we all had a good laugh, and then I asked her and she said yes to there you go.
