Make Love not Spam is a screensaver which sends requests to known spam servers. The notion is that with enough participants, the servers will become overtaxed to the point that the high bandwidth usage makes it no longer financially viable to keep the site up. In that way it is not a ddos.

One has to question the effectiveness of this screensaver. I do. But I installed it anyway. Afterall, the last time I installed a new screensaver I was hoping to discover extra-terrestrial life. I didn't by the way. This screensaver may play off our naivete, but it still falls on this side of the unlikelyhood threshold.

Ultimately, it's a marketing tool of Lycos, trying to score some more email users. Clever, but still not nearly as enticing as free POP3, eh?
