01/28/2005 Entry: "Blew"

At the Voki we watched the movie Blow from 2001. Recollect that this film was about the bigtime drug smuggler who pretty much created the coke market in the 70s.

The film, however, compels us to take his side. Particularly at the end. After getting screwed by his partner, he retires; after the birth of his daughter, he completely dries up. Five years later, at his 38th birthday party, it was the Mrs who invites bad company and pile of nose candy back in the house. Then the bust. Jung jumps bail to be with his family, but his freaky coked-up wife is the one who causes a ruckus and gets him caught.
Years later, and out on parole, Jung attempts to redeem himself as a parent. His only method for doing so is by raising some capital by running shitloads of coke cross the boarder via cesnas. Ultimately he walks right into a Sting. And there he shall sit untill 2015. Which almost rhymes with into a Sting.

We don't have to take sides on this one, even though it is supposed to be a true story. Remember how we felt when Pacino's scarface killed his best friend after he married his sister? Remember how we all said "hello" to his little friend and cheered?
This chap can snugly remain in the fold of classically tragic heroes--at least as far as this film is concerned--and we can take it as it is.
