02/14/2005 Entry: "No more mr nice Valentine"

Wrapping up Valentine's Day, and with it the second day of the Dresden Firestorm, Here is how the Washington Post covered it, prefaced by an editorial from Sam Smith, and an entry from the Daily Bleed anarchist almanac.

Just walking down the street over the weekend I happened to several bills posted on walls and lightposts--

They were calling for a counter demonstration against the pro-nazi one. A worthy and worthwhile cause, particularly in light of the fact of the alarming rise in popularity of the Nazi-in-sheep's-clothing party (NPD) in last fall's state elections. (For those back home, NPD won 10 percent of the vote in Saxony-- more than twice that of the quasi-libertarian and perennial losers FDP [FDP stands for "fast drei prozent"])

Still, it was the Title of the said bill that I found unsettling. First of all, the title was in English. Secondly, the title employed a bigoted nickname: "No Tears for Krauts".

I don't have time to explain all the minutae as to why this was a bad idea, only to say you can take my word that this choice of headline was unfortunate, inflamatory, and very, very stupid.
