03/18/2005 Entry: "Demoday"

So tomorrow's the big day in the Neustadt. The Nazis are gonna go a-marching through my quarter to protest it as being a "hive of leftist terrorism" and other such absolutely absurd claims.

There will also be a counter-demonstration. And there will be a shitload of cops. They were out on practice maneuvers today, complete with choppers--at least that's what I heard.

Some people are of the opinion that the Nazi showing will be relatively minimal; others mention that their little demo will be cordoned of by the boys in mustard yellow all the way from and back to the train station. Still others are convinced that it will be a dangerous day and plan on staying home.

I really doubt that there will be a riot or the like; that would be really cool I'm sure, but the Neustadt is already exciting enough as it is. I am more worried that their will be some chance hooligans out there afterward just looking to bust some heads. Like every year on Männertag, for instance.

And as luck would have it, DDC has a gig tomorrow night and on the busiest street in the Neustadt at that. Had I known there would be a nazi demonstration on that date two months ago, I would have picked another date and stayed home. Because I'm chicken. But what is done is done; the date set, bills posted. I'll just have to be the guy I am on the stage, not the guy who shuffles on down the street trying to be invisible. I've got to be that guy who can stare a hole through three-hundred, who can command an audience while singing "Will this Circle be Unbroken" a capella sans microphone. That guy.

Just for luck and inspiration, I'll post that one pic of St Woody again.

update

No, Virginia, there is no spoon. The biggest travesty I can see in this upcoming demonstration is the impoverished semantics of exactly where Left and Right lie.

Of course any fool would know that the Left and Right wing precedent comes from the Congress of Vienna. But already then the schema was lacking. The political world, like the real world lies not on a single line or even a plane; it is verily a sphere. Why, if we were to stick with that old system, you can readily see the paradox: the extreme Right flourishes where unemployment and lack of education is the highest. Yet who works the hardest to see that such poor slobs get a little help from the state? The Left. Yet somehow it doesn't compute, because it lacks dimensions.

And here is another choice example of lack of dimension. It is a collection of statements from the far-right "neo-con" wing in charge of things back home paired with statements made in Maoist China.
