05/18/2006 Entry: "Expat Slang of the Day"

Expat Slang of the Day
Dresdenberry red -- adj The kool-aid-like, artificial red hair dye which is particularly popular in Eastern Germany.

Usage: After her mishap with the Feuerzangebowle, she looks as if she dyed her hair Dresdenberry red.

Anecdote: according to word of mouth, in the former GDR hair dye products were hard to come by, and the most common available being red hair dye -- thanks to abundant red beet byproduct (I made up the part about the beets). Even today, red, particularly unnatural shades of red, are to be seen here and there on the manes of young phillies and Frau Igels alike all throughout Saxony.

Be well and until next time.
