07/10/2004 Entry: "Confound this Weather"

LWD -- First weekend

Confound this miserable cold weather. On my way home from work 'round lunchtime today I observed closely the faces of my fellow city dwellers and they all looked like, WTF? It's Ju-friggin'-ly for Pete's sake.

Little Wee was a perfect little monster these past few days, at least when it was time for me to pick her up for some reason. Actually I have no reason to pick her up, except that her fur is so soft, especially on the tips of her ears. So I guess her indignance is justified.

Her harness is laying on the desk unbuckled. I have noticed two things about it: first, you hold it unbuckled near the back end and let the straps hang down, it looks like a monkey. Oo oo oo. Second, somebody has been chewing at the rear strap, and it wasn't me. Uh oh.

Sarah has been in Florence for a week now, so I'd like to share some of her findings at this point.

One thing I am crazy about, though, is that I saw an otter yesterday! After parting from my group (we went to the top of the dome on the cathedral yesterday-436 steps!!) and eating my stupid ice cream cone that should've been dipped in gold [it had cost 6 euro -- Ed], I strolled along the river and after taking pictures of the geese, I saw a little wet otter walk up out of the river onto the grass! It's not like on the Elbe here, you can't walk by the grass, I was up on the sidewalk, elevated away from the creatures. I saw an otter! He just popped up out of the grass and trotted into seclusion in the grass. aaawww.

Sarah likes her course okay, but hates the pollution and noise of the city. She doesn't care for these two stingy Greek chicks who have been very prolific in the ways of pain-in-the-ass beingness. But she's having a great time, really; complaining is part of the fun!

oh yeah, the greeks-I had to do partner work with the one in my class today, and she was a pain in the a**, we had to imagine the end to a story and she basically went on strike, saying "I have no imagination for this kind of thing. I hate this stuff" give me a break, have a little fun for once.

it wasn't an otter, as my kind bike tour guide let me know, it was a nutria. Apparently nutria have the face of a beaver and the tail of a rat, and from a distance look a heck of a lot like an otter.
And in other news: I was in the house where Machiavelli wrote the Prince!!!
